Explorer
Scouts is the new section in Scouting for ages 14 to 18. It is run
directly by each Scout District through the District Explorer Scout
Commissioner. In Gosport this is Gary Seymour, a dynamic and dedicated
Scouter, committed to the success of the section. Lead from the
front by enthusiastic leaders still on talking terms with their
inner child and not content to sit around doing nothing, the Explorers
get to do most of the things they really want to do. What is considered
to be traditional Scouting, still takes place but on the members
own terms and in a way they want to do it. It is not rammed down
their throats nor is it cast aside but undertaken as part of the
fun of Scouting just as it should be.
Ideas abound, good, bad and silly! All are considered without prejudice. At a meeting to promote Explorer Scouts in Gosport, it was suggested that we have a bouncy castle one night, quite possibly as a joke. When all the leaders said "yes", the look on the faces of all those attending was a treat to see. Although so far we haven't had a bouncy castle at a meeting, we did get one delivered to a weekend camp. It got used from dawn to dusk (despite some inclement weather) along with archery, fire building, cooking and a film night shown on the roof of the marquee.
Climbing, or to be precise bouldering, is a regular favourite amongst the Explorers as can be seen. Unfortunately we all get so involved with what we do, we often forget to take photos so there aren't many to show here.

and all are welcome to visit.
